"The quartet demonstrates not just complete mastery over all technical difficulties, but a maturity of interpretation beyond their years. The ironic sweetness, the introspective bleakness and the pell-mell ferocity are all there. The emotional complexities of this music are not lost on the Jupiters; on the contrary, they rise to the challenge with a rich and subtle palette of colors." - Opus Magazine
"These are fine performances indeed... the Quartet obviously feels very strongly about these works; their passion, devotion and respect for these works is conveyed to the listener." - Music Web International
"The Jupiter has a unique sound, a special Jupiter Quartet sound... they feed off each other, and raise each other to a higher level. They have something to say." - Barry Shiffman, Director of Music, Banff Centre
This recording of Dmitri Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 3 and Benjamin Britten's String Quartet No. 2, captures two of the most musically powerful reflections of the dark chaos of the World War II era. The JSQ interpret the quartets with profound insight and a breathtaking verve.
The Jupiter String Quartet, formed in 2001, is one of the most talented and exciting groups of young American classical musicians. The members are violinists Nelson Lee and Megan Freivogel McDonough, violist Liz Freivogel and cellist Daniel McDonough.
The quartet's awards include:
* Grand Prize in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition
