Remembrance celebrates the trumpet's sonorous, elegiac character as well as its melodic and reflective nature through works by Canadian, British, American and French composers. From the simplicity of folksongs to the mournful The Last Post, Remembrance is an expression of deep emotion.
Stuart Laughton is one of Canada's best-known trumpet soloists. He is a member of the Canadian Brass, has served as concertmaster of the Hannaford Street Silver Band, as a founding member of the True North Brass, and as concerto soloist. A passionate advocate of new music, he has premiered solo works by many composers.
Peter Tiefenbach maintains an active performing and teaching career. His voice is well known to CBC Radio listeners from his years as host of The Arts Tonight and Radio Concert Hall. Tiefenbach's is a Juno-nominated composer. He composed several of pieces on this CD, and accompanies Stuart on the piano.
